What is the purpose of a floating brake on a MTB bike? Right now i have a 07 Kona Stinky and was wondering if this is something i can install on the bike and if i sould do it if it has any advantages over a fixed brake. And how much money would it cost to switch over to the floating brake?
I don't think I can help much because I haven't paid attention to this new development. From what I remember in reading magazine articles, the purpose is to help keep the rear suspension/wheel movement active while braking instead of getting choppy or locking out. I'll bet that frame mfr. websites will have the best information, or maybe some of the gravity-oriented forums like www.ridemonkey.com or www.dropmachine.com
EDIT: I forgot about www.pinkbike.com I'd check there first and see if what they've had to report. |
