Any lock that a bolt cutter cant cut? If not what type/brand would you recommend? |
Any lock that a bolt cutter cant cut? If not what type/brand would you recommend? try to get the thick tungsten steel ones, they are the most resistent to bolt cutters. But no matter what you use, they will have made something to cut thru it. Probably one of those U-locks or Kryptonite. As in a padlock? Not sure if they still sell them, but Abloy padlocks could not be cut with a bolt cutter. (checked their website, yep they still make them). check your local locksmith. I don't think hardware stores would carry them, but it's possible. Dad was a locksmith. For what you would spend in time and effort for a cut-proof locking system, you could buy a second bike that wouldn't matter if it were stolen (other than not having a ride home). Seriously -- some of this locking stuff is heavy and expensive. Buy a garage sale bike, scratch the heck out of it (make it look bad!) and put a reasonable lock on it and stop worrying about bolt cutters. the purpose is to delay the thief. Almost any bike lock can be cut. And the ones they cant cut they quick freeze and smack it. It shatters. The freeze method is really popular on campuses. Ask my ex. She had it happen to her 1 mth old Marin Yep, all you need is a can of air conditioning refrigerant and a hammer... the choice of thieves everywhere. It is effective against all locks and easy to carry. There are cable locks that use a kevlar core inside a braided stainless steel casing. Since bolt cutters rely on the failure of the metal, cables are really tough to cut with bolt cutters, and the kevlar core makes it hard to do with anything else. |
