SRAM or SHIMANO Drivetrain?? |
What do you think is the best drivetrain for now? right now I have a Specialized Hardrock Comp... RD is alivio, FD acera, COGS shimano CHAIN shimano.... I want to upgrade for something better... but my budget is limited... please suggest brand and models... tnx guys! Being on a limited budget, stay with Shimano. If you change to SRAM you will need to change your shifters and derailleurs at the same time as the SRAM cable pull is a 1:1 ratio and Shimano's is 1:2. Staying with Shimano will allow you to upgrade to a higher level, piece by piece as you can afford it. I would go at least to LX level components preferably XT if you can save up and do the conversion over time. upgrade everything to at least xt from shimano. can be done very resonably and last upgrade you will need. They say deore and lx are as good. (not) I have ridden them all including yours. Go to xt. Being one of those people that actually spec new bikes and getting to play around with stuff that is actually assembled and set up right, for an atb such as yours Shimano is the way to go. I have to disagree, however, with the first poster. Deore and Deore LX use EXACTLY the same geometry as XT so function is virtually identical... the difference is in pivot points and things like that which make XT more "friendly". Were it me re-speccing your bike, I'd go with a full Deore LX drivetrain, HG50 chain and rear cassette, and maybe an FSA Gossamer crank (if you don't want a Deore model) over XT and keep the change. Don't forget your brakes. 27 years in the industry I'm not 100% sure, but I think some of the SRAM and Shimano parts are interchangeable. I have SRAM cogs on my Shimano drivetrain. In my opinion Shimano Dura Ace is the better of the two, but you just can't beat the new Campy Record Carbon (Sweet!). |
