Cycling in your home on some training product? |
My boyfriend's 21st birthday is coming up and he rides BMX. He mentioned something about some product that you hook up to either one (or both, not sure) of your wheels (maybe the pegs?) and you can ride it anywhere without actually going anywhere. I guess it is primarily used for training, the wheel spins but you don't move. I'm trying to figure out what it's called so I can buy him one. Help! Hey, Two types 1. rollers... these can be hard to get used to as you have to stay within a ~2foot width... They are essentially 4 rollers that spin - 2 for each wheel. If you go this route, start in a doorway. 2. Rear wheel trainers. there are two types. one that the rear tire spins on (need a slick tire), and one that grabs the rear rim. They both hold the bike by the rear axel, with the front tire on the ground. I'm not sure either of these would be good for bmx, but any other type of bike like a mountain bike with slick tires, or a road bike will do. The purpose is to train your pedal stroke, and improve endurance - bmx is an entirely different style of riding, but it for sure would help with endurance - and its a fun way to work out! good luck Source(s): work in a bike shop I use a rear wheel trainer ( or Turbo Trainer, as we call them in the UK). They are good for developing endurance and cadence, unless you are deadly serious about your training, you dont need a really expensive one - You can pick up a decent one for about 150 Quid! As ct said, slick tyres will roll a little better(and quieter too!) Good Luck. |
