Ultegra or xt? Cross country touring?

Am used to the xcellant shifting on my dura ace allez and xtr epic. Tricross came with not so great bb/crank. I use the tricross for pulling a bob ibex trailer cross country. Any ideas if the xt, with better climbing ability gearing or stick with road gruppo of ultegra upgrade would work or work better?

Actually, there's very little difference between Ultegra and Dura Ace contrary to popular belief, and yes, they do make a Dura Ace Triple group. However, if it were me, I'd go with the XT. I upgraded an all aluminum Felt F80 that I have from Tiagra/105 to full Ultegra because that's my bike for pulling my son's trailer. It works well except for the usual road bike triple setup hiccups. XT was specifically designed to be extremely Durable. It's one of the best groups for MTBs. How can you go wrong?
Dura Ace is better than Ultegra for road bikes.
XTR is better than XT for off road bikes.
Stick with your XT mate!

Although I use Ultegra myself, you may find it a little less forgiving,- bearing in mind what you need them for!

I think you probably had a good idea of that, anyway mate!

Cheers.

EDIT: PsychoJim - Ultegra is BETTER for me and other riders, I am a lightweight and so's my bike and I can afford to buy Dura Ace, So why do I rate it higher??? Unless you have any experience, you may never know!

EDIT 2: XT WOULD SUIT YOU BETTER - ENUF SAID!
the xt will be better it is THE climbing gears before xtr the ultegra is for road bikes and is built for higher speed and higher use of energy, so take what you prefer better
Thanks for the clarification.
I would say it boils down to whether you need the very small 24 tooth chainring or can you make due with the 36.
My personal feeling would be that a 13/27 rear with an Ultegra triple on the front would be sufficient but it really depends on the maximum grade you will be climbing.
Fitment shouldn't be an issue. If you're not too sure I would imagine you could find a cheap but not-too pretty used triple Ultegra on eBay for a trial fit.
If you decide to go the MTB route there is also the new XTR to consider. It's supposed to be tops in regard to shifting quality.
Best of luck.
Keep in mind that Ultegra shifters will not work with XT derailleurs, nor the other way around.
You mention you're pulling the trailer "cross country".

If you mean to pull it LITERALLY "cross country", go with the XT.

If you mean to cross the country by road (which seems more likely to me), it may depend on the kind of hills you intend to traverse and the total trailer load (in weight). If you have all kinds of time, I suspect the XT would be the better matchup ... even if you can't top out at as high a speed on the flats (due to the smaller front rings).

I've pulled medium loads (up to 60 pounds, not including trailer weight) on an Ultegra setup before, and found that I almost never get into the large ring except on a few descents ... and in several instances wished for a smaller ring, with a few less teeth, for the climbs.

And yes, there IS a triple-ring DuraAce road setup.
