That would be an awesome bike for the price-those wheels retail for around $800 alone. As far as size, I wouldnt be able to tell you without knowing your inseam, but chances are something from a 50 to a 54 would fit-you may have to change the stem or something though.
I can't tell whether you are female or not. If you are, then get shims or women specific brakes and shifters.

You're likely a small or medium -- perhaps a 50 cm frame

If you only need a bike to "ride around town" then a comfort or city bike would get you there for less. If you want to use your bike for longer trips, more than 20 miles, then a road bike is useful. If you want to carry stuff, then a bike with rack is far better than a bike and backpack.
Go to an actuall bike shop. This does not meen:
Walmart.
Kaymart
Any place in the Mall!
Etc.

You need to see different bikes and talk to a person who actually knows what they are talking about. Personally, I would go with lets say a $700 bike and use the $300 left to get a upgraded seat, shocks front and rear, and a good helmet. You can even get a excellent bike for around $500 and use $500 for upgrades, gadgets like computer speed and distance monitors, bike apparial, etc. Personially I ride a Specialized Hard Rock bike, I have had it for 9 years this month and it is in perfect condition, except for the seat. I will be puting in a new one with front suspension/shocks in a month or so.

at 5'6 i would agree with the fellas below. probably start with a 52-54 size bike. buying online is the best way to find a good deal but you'll first need to go to some bike shops and test out what size fits you best.

You can usually find some deals on those sites. also try ebay.
As said below, if you're only looking to go around town.. you might not want to get a race-specific bike, it'll most likely be uncomfortable. I never give this advice, but try to look at some hybrids, they might suit your needs better.

good luck!
whatever you do get a U bike lock and a chain to go with it. Also don't go without a carbon fork.
Years of riding.
Difficult to find a 105 equipped bike for 1000. I think Treks at that level are 1300 at regular price. You can try Randall Scott Company online. But buying a bike online is a gamble since you don't know if it fits or feels right or if they skimp on some other parts to get the price down. It also is not fully built or tuned

Go to a bike shop, get fitted to find your size, buy, and go back to get free minor adjustments (offered at some shops)

Also look at Jamis, their steel bikes are a good value and comfy riding.

Never just go by the seat tube size because a 52cm is slightly different brand to brand. You need to know your ideal top tube length as well. That's why you should get fitted. The shop will give you a print out to keep for future reference.
