When cycling on the road and you need to make a right or left turn what are the hand signals for both turns? When cycling make your signal as easy to interpret as possible. You can't count on a motorist knowing what you mean. If you have two arms use both they are easily seen. Stick the right arm out for a right turn and the left out for a left turn. Point to were you are going on a roundabout. Try to make eye contact with drivers if at all possible. Very hard not understand these. Check the pictures at this link. ( you can use the other one if you want but don't expect everyone to know what you mean) http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/exercise/... using left hand. up for right, out at 270 degrees for left & down for stop The same as they are in a car or motorcycle: Left turn = left arm straight out. Right turn = Left arm bent at the elbow and pointed up. Stop = left arm bent and pointed down. But the variation I use is to simply signal my turn with the appropriate arm. You can't stick your right arm out the car window, and your right hand has to use the throttle on a motorcycle, but on a bicycle there's nothing keeping you from using both hands as needed, and it's more visible to those behind. |
