Bike comparison? |
Should i get a Cannondale Rush 5 or a Cannondale Prophet MX? Unfortunately, choosing between the 2 provides no choice at all. Both of those bikes are overpriced and lower performing than just about every other bike in their class. If you are intent on a Cannondale, take whichever one you think looks cooler but know that you could have gotten a better bike for less money. EDIT: Take a look at Iron Horse or K2. Both of these brands offer a great bike at a price lower than you'd expect, and they both have a winning pedigree under their belt. Source(s): 27 years in the industry Both are the same brand. The usage for each is different, though. The Prophet MX is a bike for 4X, which is built to be used tough. If you want to do fast paced stuff with some jumps into it, this would be a better choice. The Rush is for XC stuff and some trail riding, which will probably be what you're looking for. This should be lighter, and the geometry will be a bit steeper for quiker steering and better for climbing. Honestly, forget Cannondale.... they are more of a name than good products now. If you want trail riding, go for a Trance from Giant or a Blur from Santa Cruz. If you want dirt jumping/trial, go for the Giant STP, the Jackal, or the Banshee Morphine. If you want a little bit of both and can afford it, get yourself a freeride hardtail like the Cove Stiffee FR, Banshee Scirocco, Mountain Cycle Rumble, etc. If you want to stay with an American company, go for Giants... they make about 90% of the frames available on the market for practically every american bike company. Most 24 hour type events are fairly low boil affairs, and courses are relatively non-technical for safety reasons. If you're there for the fun of it, just about any decent MTB would do the job. If you think you have a realistic shot at the podium, well that's a different story. But if you were capable of winning, you wouldn't be here asking this question. Being you are looking for a bike to ride on for 24hrs, a pure xc race bike tends to be a bear after about the first 12hrs. When you start to get tired the quick steering of a xc race bike gets old. I'd would go with the next best an aggressive xc trail bike. Late in the race the 1~2 inches of extra suspension is a welcome comfort and the slightly more relaxed steering will help keep you in the saddle. Here is a short list of reasonably priced bikes that would serve you well.(in no particular order) Specialized FSR Giant Trance Fisher HiFi Trek Fuel I love my Specialized epic for this discipline. The riders you see winning would win on any brand,ie TINKER Jurez. so get a brand that treats you right at the shop and then get off your putter and ride |
