What should I look for in an eliptical trainer?

I want something as an alternate to walking outdoors.

Hey,

Just did some research on this myself...

First thing you do is pick how much you are willing to spend. When you are looking at the machines, the ones that have the body at the back and wheels at the front are more stable than the ones with the body at the front, and wheels at the back.

It is really important to get on it, and try it out for a few minutes. They all fit and feel different. You have to be comfortable.

Other than that, make sure it has the features you want. Some have heart rate monitors that you grip (not that great) and others with a band that goes around the chest. Look at the programs, make sure they've got what you want.

You want it to be fairly quiet, and have a good warranty. Buy it somewhere that offers good service after the sale.

Good luck

EDIT*** In regards to the post below: They are entirely different workouts, and both fun. I have a bike trainer and an eliptical and if anything, the trainer is more of a hassle. With the eliptical, you get on and go - don't need to set your bike up.

Also, don't take major purchase advice from those who call one excersise "funner" than the other...
A bike is easier on the kness and funner..from experience those things are just a hassle.
