Any one involved in a "car-free" challenge? |
Either as an individual, or part of a group? List your reasons why or why not. im down to about one day a month solo in my gas guzzler and a few with a car pool but most ly i am on my bike. it freeking rules. i am in great shape and i can lord it over my coworkers. its not some sort of organized challenge thing its just what i do. my commute is about 11-12 miles one way. and in traffic im way faster than if i drove. the only draw back is arriving to work sweaty. i get in early and do a good spounge bath with a sniffy good reapply. i havent had any complaints and belive me my coworkers would let me know if i were odoriferous. good luck No. I can not carry everything I need for my job on my bike. P well i cannot afford to purchase a car so i do bike everywhere. but i dont think that that counts as a car-free challenge because i do not have the car option to begin with. I suppose it's considered a challenge ... Fuel prices are getting steeper (and vehicle prices and insurance rates are going up as well). The traffic congestion is also going up - even on the country roads. Vehicle sizes are getting larger (lots of pickups, sport utilities, and construction-related trucks). I do it for myself ... but encourage others to participate. It's safer when there's a larger group of riders traveling together than a lone rider operating solo. It's good for your cardiovascular health, and also for weight control (fat burning and metabolic increase). It's easier to talk to people and be sociable, compared to whizzing past one another at high speeds inside metal-and-glass coffins. It's much nicer to smell the crops and flowers as you go by more slowly - you have a better appreciation for life in general, and reduce stress accordingly. |
