Carbon vtt bikes? |
hi all, I know that carbon vtt bikes are more expensive then alu vtt bikes! But what are the differences, is there a big difference in riding? Why are they more comfortable? carbon dampens shock better and can produce a lighter bike, but it is important to note, not all carbon is equal. the stiffness and strength of carbon frames can really run all over the board. a quality carbon frame isnt just a little more, it is bunches more expensive. off brand low price carbon frames are usually whimpy and flexible. aluminum offers a much more consistant end product, or if i have my way steal is real. i'm old fashion, being i started cycling in the late 70's, but they have yet to come up with anything that gives the ride and performance of a good steal bike in my book. the response on carbon bikes is a little quicker than aluminum bikes. No matter how good welds are on an aluminum bike, it is still at least 6 pieces put together. On a carbon bike, however, it is all one piece molded and formed together so the response is quicker. Lighter, you already know about. I will tell you though, from my experience, an aluminum bike can take more punishment before it goes out than a carbon one. So... if you are freeriding or beating up your bike, go aluminum. If you are racing or trail riding, or are a light rider, go carbon, if you can afford it. It's a matter of weight. |
