so i need a new 8-speed cassette for my mongoose D70r, the cassette on it is a 11-28 cog, can i change it to a 11-30 or a 11-32 8-speed cassette? I usually get "thumbs down" for answers like this. The answer to your question is no. Usually. The TY28 derailleur on your bike has a maximum capability of 28 teeth. Additionally, you'd need to get a longer chain as mentioned earlier. If your bike has an ALTUS rear derailleur instead of the TY28 (it just says "Shimano" on it) then 30T won't be a problem but you'll definitely need a longer chain. One other thing... I think your bike has a freewheel, not a cassette, so before you buy something make sure you get the correct thing. Source(s): 27 years in the industry Very likely yes.
