On 24", 18 speed mountian bike, metal bracket around chain does not move with chain when shifting gears?
You're talking about either the front or rear derailleur. If it's not moving then you have to retighten the cable. Follow the cable from the shifter to either the front or rear derailleur that is affected and loosen the screw that is holding it in place. Then grab the end of the cable with a pair of pliers and pull on it to take out any slack, then while still pulling on it, retighten the screw. That should take care of the problem. Of course you may have to make some more adjustments to the tension screws as well. We'll get into that if the above doesn't work. |
