Biking to work/school? |
I am considering biking to college (2 mi.) b/c the nearest parking would likely be two miles from my destination anyway. Since I am in professional school, I am required to dress in business casual attire. Is there any way for me to bike to class w/out becoming sweaty? I'm also concerned about wearing down the heel of my shoe/my dress pants getting caught in the wheel. I would consider walking, but it hurts my back (& takes twice as long)to walk 2 miles with a heavy back pack. Also, I have a cheap bike from Kmart, but are there any slightly more expensive ($200 or less) bikes that would be more conducive to commuting to class? Thank you!! You could spend hundreds of pounds (or Dollars) on a bike for commuting but still end up becoming sweaty! Just ride easy and take a change of clothes with you in your rucksack, -Its what I do when I ride to work - I dont really see the problem here? ride on a very low gear Here's my cut and paste from the question you just answered a short while ago. ----------------------- It's really up to you. I own very high quality bikes. But that's me. I ride a lot and love it. If you are strictly going to commute 2 miles slow so you don't sweat, buy whatever you want. A slow 2 miles is the same on most any bike. (when comparing, like types) I do suggest not getting < $100 bikes they do tend to just not work well. A cross bike would be fine. Stay away from "thumb" shifters and side pull brakes found on the cheapest of the cheap. Grip shifters or trigger shifters do a better job as do v-brakes. ------------------------ For your pants use a velco strap or a big elastic hair band to secure you cuff. This has be done for ages. As far as sweating - go slow. Early in the morning it's usually very humid and of couse when it's sunny and hot it's a problem too. All you can do is keep it slow. If your wearing heals, you may want flats for biking and change to heels when you get there. |
