If I bike ride 6 miles every day and I started yesterday how long will it take me to loose 20 pounds? |
will it be long and how cna i watch what i eat Great your looking to get in shape and drop weight. You provided very general info. But weight loss isn't rocket science. If you eat right (and less) and exercise more you will lose weight. It's a FACT. However DOING it is ALWAYS the problem. Exercise kills my appetite so it not only burns calories but helps me eat less too. 6 miles every day is good, it would be just as good to ride 8 miles 5 days a week and give yourself a break once in a while. If you reduce you food intake 15% or so... or eat better food most people can lose 20 lbs comfortably in less than 10 weeks. I'm sure you wanted to hear 1 month but it's been proven too difficult for 99% of people to do. Plus, losing much more than 2-3 lbs a week isn't healthy. All that being said if your not very overweight now 20 is a lot to lose. If you should lose 40, 20 will be a little easier to drop. EDIT: I read some answers above - they scare me. If you exercise you WILL burn calories. Biking, running, swimming, mowing lawns... Moderate exercise does NOT build muscle in 10 weeks. The only advice I found credible (above) was eating veggies, fruit and lots of water. Lean meats, chicken, fish etc. High protien, lower fat and carb consumption has been proven to work. EDIT: losing weight will take off fat all over your body, no such thing as spot reducing. If you mean will biking significantly tone your tummy, NO. Do sit-ups and/or crunches to target your tummy toning. This helps strengthen and tighten up your stomach. Bike riding doesnt exaclty make you lose weight 100% of the time...it gets you cut up with abs and a lot of muscle so basically you will be gaining :) no snacking, no sodas. eat a lot of little meals of veggies and fruits. lots of water. i'm not sure how long it would take you to lose 20 pounds... you'll put on lots of muscle... you'll notice you'll feel better in about 3 weeks... after that you should start seeing results. as for weight... don't go by weight. a pillowcase of feathers and a pillowcase of bricks are the same size but different weights. just look at yourself and you'll know when you look good. that scale will tell you nothing. biking im not sure about but if you walk about a mile or 2 a day you can lose 20 pounds in about a month As long as your not eating anything outstandingly fatty foods Eat fruits and Drink clean water all day( you shouldnt eat after 6:00 pm) and dont eat anything that has high fructose corn syrup or trans fat if you are 98 pounds of muscle, you are probably going to gain weight... so it depends really. -edit- yeah, what boricu said 100 days, but of course by then you will be 600 miles from home. Sorry, really to lose a pound of weight you have to burn 3500 more calories then you take in. So loss depends on eating and exercise habits over time. It is reasonable to try to lose a pound or two a week. You could calculate how much you burn at various levels of speed on the bike, or simply watch your diet and let nature take its course. Bike riding can make you hungry so you would have to avoid the need to binge after rides. Eating sensible and exercising will benefit you if you lose a certain amount of weight or not. I am not sure that six miles will really help you do much of anything. If you want to drop 20 pounds on the bike - you need to be cranking up the distance you ride. Try intervals for a month, and then crank up to 20 miles every other day. Dropping 20 pounds will take time - and it should - thats a big change for any body to handle. As for watching what you eat - just eat less - the 80% rule is a goody i.e. eat whatever you eat now but only till you feel about 80% full. Also don't snack at night - give your stomach a rest - go to sleep with an empty stomach. |
