Information on pro cycling teams' masseuse... I think called sougneirs?

I've read about the people who do the massages for the riders, who also hand out the feed bags and towels. I think they were called sougneirs? It's pronounced swan-yers.

I just wanted to know if there was a book or website about them, how to become one, that kind of thing.

Thanks!

The Tour de France is one of the world's most difficult sports challenges. Like all pro cycling events, it involves a large cadre of people to support the riders. Soigneurs are kind of like a personal assistant to the stars of the cycling world.
Soigneurs do a lot of tasks that frees up the riders to concentrate on the battle for the day. The Soigneurs takes care of nutrition (cooking, preparing food, drink bottles ,etc), and provides massage therapy for aching muscles, helping speed recovery time in this grueling sport.
It has been said that the right soigneur can help a team by keeping riders in tip top shape and by being a source of stability, as the one who can be counted on to do what the others are too busy to take care of. The right soigneur doesn't win the race, but the wrong one sure could make it harder to win. Source(s): Massage therapy school and anatomy and physiology classes and sports psychology would be a good starting point for an aspiring soigneur. Part teammate, part "house parent" and part "gofer" they are the morale booster for a team. Superb organizational skills would be a huge plus also.
I think they're actually called an "entreneuse" (on-tra-nooze).
It's a French term--look it up. :)

You can try to contact them. Search the web for other Pro cycling teams too.

It'd be cool to work on a pro team. However I think Soigneurs do a lot more than that. I think they are gofers and do a ton of work. So if you think you'll hand out feed bags and massage heavily muscled, shaved legs you may be in for a surprise!

Here's one on soigneurs:

Good luck.
Nice cut n paste there Lt Dan. Of course, you don't need a 'soigneur', because you ain't got no legs.

Here ya go MJ:

How to become one... in the US there's not really a defined career path (or much pay, for that matter) but you could send a resume to the team that Jon Vaughters runs, Slipstream - looks like they're expanding next year.

Otherwise, hang around big races and teams, ask other support crew.

Good luck.
