HELP PLEASE READ - putting up a bicycle? |
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello, I'm a typical thick feminine type trying to put a bicycle up. The instructions are telling me to disconnect the front brake cable by squeezing both brakes arms while pulling the brake pipe upwards out of the keyhole slot - but I don't know which part i'm looking for, where is they keyhole slot and what does it look like?? If you have pic sources too it would be great!!! ok the brake arms are the two arms at the wheel with the rubber brake blocks on them, squeez them towards the wheel.. you should notice the cable connected beding slightly.. pull the pipe up wards . a keyhole slot is a hole that the end of the brake pipe goes through just before the cable is exposed, the thing to notice is it has a slot cut out of it that the cable can be pulled through http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl... click that link there are three pics in a row down the page ,might help The brakes will be at the top of the front wheel, overhanging each side with black pads on. If you are disconnecting them, they will be under tension from a cable that runs to the handlebars. So you will have to squeeze the pads towards each other. Then you can pull the cable off it's holder. The holder is on the front forks where the cable disappears into a black cover. Called a keyhole because it's a slot that looks like a keyhole. But it's covered until you pull the cable off. Sorry I cant be much help but this site is great... Pictures & all.. www.sheldonbrown.com/canti-dir... - 20k - Cached - Similar pages To disconnect the the break cable they are saying to squeeze the break together by the wheel to loosen the cable. You will need to take off the wheel to do this. Then the other end goes into the break lever, the part on your handle bar. When you squeeze the lever look where the cable attaches on it. On this end the cable has a piece of metal looks sort of like a little ball. This is fitted into the lever's keyhole slot. You should be able to work it out if the cable is lose enough. I'm not sure what you're doing this for. But if you disconnect the break cable from the break instead of squeezing the break it will come off much easier. are you trying to loosen the front brake to remove the wheel? If so, FIRST you may have to loosen the brake adjuster to get the most slop on the cable. There are two nuts where the brake cable meets the brake handle assembly. The outer nut is a lock nut, the nut closest to the handle is really the adjuster. Spin the lock nut AWAY from the adjuster nut, then spin the adjuster TOWARDS the brake handle THEN squeeze the brake pad arms together and you should now have enough slack that the cross cable can be pulled up thru the little slot. You actually need the little bulge to pull back before getting the cable thru the slot. When putting this back together, get the wheel centered and bolted down then re-insert the brake cable, adjust the inner brake handle nut for proper brake clearance, hold this nut and tighten the lock nut against it.
