Training advice for LEJOG? |
Im planning the LEJOG cycle in about a years time. To be honest im not that fit so need the best advice on getting fit enough for the cycle. Ive got an excercise bike which I plan to do the majority of the training on. Just wanting some advice on training regime, how many miles to aim for etc Hi, I'm planning on doing it next June (2008). The kind of training you do will depend on how far you are planning to cycle each day but basically you just need to rack up the mileage. In my opinion you should be riding at least four days a week. How far/long you ride for will depend on your current fitness level. Start with whatever you can manage then gradually increase from there. I could give you advice on long rides, tempo rides, hill training etc but I think you would be better off just getting on a bike and riding. I would highly recomend that you get a bike and ride outdoors for a number of reasons: 1. You will be doing LEJOG on a bike not an exercise bike -you need to have logged plenty of miles on the bike that you will be riding LEJOG on so you become acoustomed to riding it. 2. There are no hills when riding an exercise bike - the hills in Cornwall are very very steep so you need to be used to riding hills. 3. Riding outside will get you used to riding on roads and what to expect from cars, lorries etc. 4. It can be difficult to stay motivated on an exercise bike because you are stuck in the same place whereas on a bike outside you are always moving and have the scenery to enjoy. I've posted a link to a great site that has acounts from hundreds of LEJOG trips and also a link to my site detailing my planed trip. Good luck and e-mail me if you want any more advice. Source(s): http://www.users.waitrose.com/~ianclare/... http://www.tridantri.co.uk/lejog/lejogin... I had to look up the lejog. It's a long multi-day tour across England I see. With that being said. I highly recommend you ride a real bike outside as much as possible instead of a exercise bike. During the winter use the exercise bike to keep up your fitness. Indoors or out, ride 3 times a week for an hour. Work up to it over several weeks if you need to. Do this outside until winter then continue indoors. In spring, get outside again and continue doing the same but now make one of the rides 2 to 3 hours long. Do several rides close to the longest leg of the tour. You will want to be sure you can do it in the actual tour. Not only will this give you the training needed for the mileage, it will give you the confidence that you are ready to do it as well. Try this site for good information, I am sure it will be of help: http://www.audax.uk.net/ |
