Can I fit a 8 sp casette onto a MAVIC M234 rim ? |
MAVIC M234 It's a wheel rim for sale , it comes with a 7 speed casette . It's on ebay here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/ebayisapi.dll?v... have a bike with an 8 gear lever It needs a rear wheel . I thought I maybe able to fit an 8 spd casette on it . I asked the seller , He had no idea If that wheel is made for a 7 speed no it will NOT work. When the industry went to 8,9,10 speeds the rear wheel spacing and the freehubs were increased. You can get a 7 to work on a 8,9,10 freehub with a spacer, I did this with an old bike of mine, but you can't go the other way, there isn't enough space for the cassette. I think that the width of the hub wouldn't be correct for you. I can't find anything on the wheelset with a quick search, but for a mtn bike, should have a 135mm rear hub (which would host an 8 or 9 speed casette fine). I think 7 speed would be a 130mm hub and wouldn't fit on your bike, but someone else who is more of an expert might know better. M R is right. Plus, you can never fit any cassette on a rim. You don't fit a cassette on the rim, you fit it on the hub. The ad mentions a Shimano hub. In theory at least, this is possible. You'd need to change the axle to a longer one and the freehub body to the correct one. A 7 speed rear wheel is too narrow for the spacing for your frame if your current frame is 8 speed. Note that wheels are made of the rim (Mavic 234), hub (Shimano) and spokes, so in essence the rim has nothing to do with the cassette. 27 years in the industry NO P |
