Where could I get a good french/10 speed bike? |
I've looked all over i have no idea. Let me know if you know :] If you are after a LOOK or TIME or something like that then don't!!!!!!! Judging by a previous question you posted, you are not ready to exploit a bike of that calibre. I'm not being nasty, but realistic. If you want to try to buy a secondhand machine then by all means check out the usual sources; ebay; magazine classifieds; etc. One step at a time. Harsh but true. EDIT: When I read 10 speed, I take it that you only meant the rear cassette? Decide what brands you are interested and search for one locally. Garage sales, craigslist, etc. If you really want a 10 speed then you are looking for a bike built not much later than 1980, so this very likely means it is going to be used. If you insist on a French bike, then you'll be looking at Gitane, Peugeot or Motobecane from that era. They are readily available just about anywhere you see a "Garage Sale" sign, usually for very little money. Note that new Motobecanes and Peugeots are made in China or Taiwan and I am not so sure that Gitane is made anymore. There is not a single bike built today that I can think of that have 10 gears... most are 18 to 30 gears now. EDIT: CRYSTAL... I might be interested in your bike. please send pics to mirageguitarworks@yahoo.com 27 years in the industry I usually try not to answer a question with a question; but this is too good to pass on...why do you want french? and must it be limited to 10 speed? now, the answer to your limited question- ebay, craigs list, velonews, google search the larger city bike clubs. This should keep you busy for some time. I am not sure what you mean by "good"- is that the level of campy all around on reynolds 531 tubing? or is this a low end older peugeot? a better peugeot would be a PX 10 unless of course you are thinking a pure racing bike of yesteryear. I was in Paris last year for the 06 TDF - plenty of bikes for sale over there...maybe a plane-bus-road trip in the making? good hunting. sooner spinner said it all! I have a Vitus 979 (older french bike) with full Shimano 600 components (14 sp). I don't know the exact height (somebody bought it for me), but it is much too large for me, so will sell it if you're interested. I am about 5'5". It fits my 6'2" bf much better, with a 32" inseam. I can send pics/measurements if you're interested. |
