How do you take the links off of a bike chain? |
How do you take the links off of a bike chain? As a previous poster said you will probably need a removal tool. Sometimes the master link will be a Pin of a different colour than the others, (Shimano are often darker than the rest) dont use the same link to rejoin, get another from your local bike shop. Or. . .better still . . get a chain that doesn't require one such as SRAM. With a chain link pin remover like this one. http://www.parktool.com/products/detail.... Just be careful not to crimp the link too hard when you're putting it back together. there is one master link...find it and the whole chain will come off..if you are trying to remove a few links to bring the tire up to tighten it then a little more things involved....just do the same as for the master link...but one thing you remove one link and the tire must be able to travel about1/4 - 1/2 inch forward.
