MTB Threadless Stems 25.4mm or 31.8mm ??????


I have a 97 Rockhopper and want a new stem. Is the bar clamp size universal? I see both 25.4 and 31.8 mm designated. The bar on my bike is the original. I don't want to buy the wrong size.

That would be a 25.4.

31.8 is road bikes and oversized bars. A 97 rockhopper won't have oversized bars.

But if you just bring in the old stem, they can verify that in a shop

Whoa, u have a '97 rockhopper!
i say u should prolly just go look for a new bike, some can be expensive thoo, if u really like the bike and its been reliable thoo, u should be able to take it into ur local bike shop and they could tell u, and even do it for u.
