Would You Participate In The Tour De France? |
Would You Participate In The Tour De France? I would, if for no other reason than to experience pushing myself to those kind of extremes. They say the event draws far more spectators on the road than any Super Bowl. The surge of energy, the hostility of the Basque crowds... The climbs are simply epic. Doping questions aside, the ability to endure that kind of pain, that kind of suffering to climb the Ventoux, is almost incomprehensible. The decents! You have to really be able to unplug your sense of self-preservation to fly down moutnains like that. I would never be competitive, but it would be an incredible journey. I don't know how to dope my blood so they probably wouldn't let me ride. I would if I could... Regardless of the scandal, it is and always will be an epic tour, and would be an excitement even to bike a stage The key word here is "participate". I would love the opportunity to go ride that, but I would be far from competitive. I'm sick of hearing non-cycling nay sayers trashing the cycling community by talking about the doping like they are an expert. The fact is, half way through the Tour this year over 260 test were done before the first positive. That's less than 1 percent. Tell me another sport that tests that many people in a two week period? Oh, that's right, none! Maybe track and field. Fact is, if baseball, football and basketball were to do that many tests, there would be far more positives. Sure, you want to pay my way? In a heartbeat! Anything beats work and I'd be the cleanest rider there. I'm just bummed about all of the doping scandals and wish they would get a handle on it. Go Levi!!!! If you promise not to laugh when I come in last. |
