Does anyone have a bike route from Corpus Christi to Houston? |
I am trying to put together a 6-day "Texas Triangle" bike ride. Day One is Houston to Shiner, Day Two is Shiner to San Antonio, Day Three is San Antonio to Beeville, Day Four is Beeville to Corpus Christi. Day Five and Six remain uncharted (the total distance would be around 600 miles). I have the first 4 days' routes mapped out, but I don't know the way between Corpus and Houston. Need some help please ... thanks. Basic Corpus-to-Houston distance is slightly more than 200 miles. Try the following (US 77 to US 59, with all the appropriate secondary roads). You'll probably find the US-77 to be about the same traffic density as US 37 (San Antonio-Beeville-Corpus route), while US 59 will tend to have slightly higher traffic volume, depending on the day you're actually traveling. Both should have sufficient shoulder to make riding relatively safe. DAY 1: (Corpus to Edna = 108 miles) Head east on Leopard St toward N Staples St 0.2 mi 2. Turn left at Artesian St 0.1 mi 1 min 3. Turn right to merge onto US-181 N 10.2 mi 11 mins 4. Continue on TX-35 N 2.4 mi 2 mins 5. Turn left at FM-136 17.8 mi 20 mins 6. Continue on FM-2678 9.6 mi 10 mins 7. Turn left at FM-774 1.5 mi 3 mins 8. Turn right at S Alamo St/US-77 Continue to follow US-77 35.0 mi 36 mins 9. Continue on TX-91-SPUR (signs for Houston/US-59) 1.5 mi 1 min 10. Continue on US-59 N 26.9 mi 27 mins 11. Slight right at US-59 S 0.5 mi 12. Continue on TX-521-LOOP 1.9 mi 4 mins 13. Turn right at TX-111 171 ft DAY 2: (Edna to Houston = 102 miles) 1. Head northwest on TX-111 toward E Main St/TX-521-LOOP 171 ft 2. Turn right at E Main St/TX-521-LOOP Continue to follow E Main St 1.6 mi 3 mins 3. Turn left to merge onto US-59 N 97.0 mi 1 hour 40 mins 4. Take the I-45 exit on the left toward Dallas/Galveston 0.2 mi 5. Merge onto TX-288 N 0.5 mi 6. Take the exit onto I-45 N toward Dallas 1.5 mi 2 mins 7. Take exit 47B to merge onto Houston Ave toward Memorial Dr 0.3 mi 8. Slight right to stay on Houston Ave 407 ft 9. Turn right at W Capitol St 0.3 mi 1 min 10. Turn right at Bagby St 0.1 mi i dont think anyone does. I do not have what is truly defined as a "bike route." However, you might already be aware of two possibilities to investigate: (1) Texas Route 35. (2) U.S. Route 77 to Victoria and then, U.S. Route 59 to Houston. In either case, the "as the crow flies" mileage between Corpus Christi and Houston is 215. Considering the landscape in most of Texas, either of these routes SHOULD be flat-and-straight-ahead terrain. I am GUESSING that vehicle traffic on Route 35 would be less than on Route 77/59, BUT the berms on Route 77/59 would be wider than on Route 35. |
