Should i bring my bike to college? |
im going to bowling green state university in 4 days and i would like to take my bike, but if there is a good possibility that my bike will get stollen or wrecked id rather not take it. im going to be using it to get around the campus and city If you have a nice, even decent bike, I would NOT take it. It will get stolen, even in the nicest of campuses. If you have the means to do so, get an ugly but mechanically sound bike. Something used, cheap, but in working order. The key is UGLY. Any decent bicycle is at high risk to be stolen. The uglier it is, the less interested a thief will be in it. I had a total beater in college. Ug-lee. But, it was so ugly that it was never stolen, and I rarely bothered to lock it up. It got me around, and I never worried about it. Mine had stickers slapped all over it. Terrible paint job, etc. i visited a college before and outside of every dorm room was a rack of bikes so i say it is a good idea i visited Notre Dame you could if you wan to but bring a combanation lock to. Yes, take it. It's a great way to stay active and get around town. Just invest in a good lock... BGSU is a typical college environment, so you're not going to be the target of some elaborate lock-picking incident when other bikes are easier to get to (unless your bike is a rare and valuable species that basically begs people to steal it). Take your bike. It'll be well worth the trouble to be responsible for it. Go to a good bike shop, tell them you are going to college, and ask what is the best type of lock to get. A thief will take the bike that isn't locked, or one that has a lock that they can easily circumvent. You'll really like having a bike there. There is NOT a good possibility it'll be stolen, unless you leave unlock all the time. If you have a valuable bike, buy a beater for school. $50 on craigs list etc. |
