How do you measure the size of a bicycle?
Different companies measure differently, often from the center of the crank (bottom bracket) to the top of the top tube on a newer bike. Older bikes were usually center of the crank to center of the top tube, and some were, or still are, center of the cranks to top of the seat tube. That's always measuring along the seat tube, not vertically.
This is what the manufacturer goes by, but this really isn't the important measurement. What you really need to know to size most bikes is the length of the top tube, again usually measured from the center of the seat tube to the center of the head tube. Height of a frame isn't so important, especially with today's compact frames, full suspension mountain bikes, and other non-traditional designs. The length of the bike is what's going to determine whether or not the bike fits. From the bottom bracket to the top of the top tube. Some manufactures go from the BB to the top of the seat tube.
