How can you keep a bike from rusting? |
How can you keep a bike from rusting? The best thing is keep your bike clean and dry when not in use. Storing it indoors is a big plus. If it can not be stored indoors, then get a cover which breathes (meaning if the bike does get wet under the cover, the water can evaporate through the cover to the outside without trapping the moisture inside) to place over the bike. If no rust exists at this time, wax the bike including all chrome parts but be careful if you try to wax the rims and you have cable brakes. The pads will just slide on the freshly waxed surface and you will be needing a new bike after the crash. If the bike is already rusting, use something like Nevr Dull wadding to remove the existing rust (available at auto parts stores or walmart). If the rust you just removed was on the painted or chrome surface, clean the surface well and clear coat it. If the rust you just removed was on a mechanical part, clean well and apply a small amount of WD-40 to the surface. Remember, the key is to keep the bike clean and dry, Dry, DRY. keep it out of the rain!!!!!!! Very easy. most bikes are painted with a rust-proof finish. when this gets worn or chipped, it becomes very easy for it to rust. After every ride i would just simlply rinse off the dirt, and then dry the bike down with a rag. This washes of dirt that will cause it to eventually rust sand it down....coating of rustoleum....coat of wax and oil chain and sprockets.......wax rims and spokes.....good luck dont keep it outside in the rain losaaaaa my partner gives his a good clean and a light coating of WD40 all over (except the brakes!) Keep it covered up when it's not in use. |
