What do you average on a recreational ride? |
I average about 16/17 mph. Is this decent? Short answer: yes. Long Answer: depends upon the riding conditions. Winds, hills, heat and rain can all affect your pace. BTW, do not ask serious bike racers this question. Most of us have a different idea of "recreational", when it comes to riding speed. Before getting married I used to ride to the beach every weekend. The round trip was 40 miles, not counting casual pedaling about the strip to visit the shops. With the wife, recreational rides now go about a quarter to a half mile. And I can no longer ride to the beach. I've lost the edge. I'm nearly 50 now, but I regularly rode the beach run as recent as 3 years ago. I'm just a beginner, so I don't try to go too fast, but I typically ride between 12 - 14 mph, sometimes a little faster when first starting out on the flats.. as a commute i do about 18mph but can kick it up in a crunch. i would say that 16/17 is fine for a recreation ride. to me rec riding is less intense than training or commuting but that doesnt mean that im just dodling along. incidentally i maintained the 18mph across 50+ miles ffor a charity ride so that is sort of my catch all pace. I average 10 to 12. That's decent for a recreational ride, especially if you encounter a lot of hills along the way. I'll average around 18-19 mph on a 3 hour route around my area. There are a few small hills and a few rollers, but nothing too bad. If I need to kick it up a bit, I could probably do 20-21 mph for a litle while. Yup, pretty good. How long do you ride for? Is it off road? On a 3 hour mountain bike ride, I average about 18-20 kph. I'm not gonna lie to you though, I'm kind of fast. |
