Forte brand products from Performance Bike?

I didn't realize that Forte is a house brand only sold at Performance Bike. The sales staff really push Forte products, but how is the quality relative to mass-marketed brands? All I've actually purchased was a set of tires and tubes, but I want to make sure they aren't crap! What do you all think of this brand??

It all depends on the product, as is the case with most other house brands. Some items are complete junk, others are pretty good for the price.

Basic parts, such as brake levers, tires, tubes, clothing, water bottles, cages, pedals, etc are usually fine. Once you start getting to the bigger types of components, that's where the big difference usually is. If I'm gonna shell out the money for some new disc brakes, I'd rather but a well-known brand then them; as I've heard some stories about the quality not being so great on the bigger components.

You get what you pay for. There's a reason that the Shimano 9-speed cog is priced way much more then a similar Forte one. The teeth tend to break easier on them then they do for the high-end stuff. Source(s): Me
dude, Jason just totally nailed the answer.
I pretty much agree with the first answer. Usually fit, finish and material. I don't think breakage or poor performace is a problem though.

I bought a couple Forte items and Nashbar as well. Parts like cassettes will work fine but be much heavier usually. All house brands, as I'm sure you know, are simply made by large bike parts manufactures. Wellco pedals is a private brand supplier. You see the exact same pedal under 2 or 3 different names.
Well I'm glad you brought this up , I buy from nashbar often but had no Idea about the Forte thing. Good Girl.
I buy a lot of stuff from Performance, including the Forte tires and tubes. I bought the Forte GT2 Kevlar tire. Not the lightest tire by all means, but after 800 miles I only have a small cut on the front tire from when I smacked right into a deep pothole that I somehow missed and blew out my front and rear tubes. That was probably 600 miles ago and I never replaced it and it still rides beautifully. As for the tubes, don't by the Forte ultralite's, unless you plan on only using them during a race. I could only get about 50 miles out of them before they would develope a cut in them right at the base of the stem. I switched over to the the regular Forte's and have had no problems since.
I use them almost exclusively on my "daily driver" to keep costs down. Haven't had any problems with their tires and such. For something that you're going to put to hard daily use, its awfully hard to justify spending $40 for a tire when the Fort茅 is only $10. Run over a nail or a big hunk of glass, the end result is the same.

I'll use more expensive stuff on my race bike where performance and weight are more of an issue.
