Bike rack for new toyota camry? |
I want to get a bike rack for two bikes for my car. My car is new and I don't have a bike yet. I also would like to know a decent priced bike for a beginner. I've always known how to ride a bike but just want something conservative to go riding in parks and the like. If you want a roof rack, www.yakima.com and www.thule.com and go thru with your car and it will tell you what you need. The racks have a plastic padding thing on the bottom, so the only scratches you will get will be from errors putting your bike on and off. If you want a trunk rack, saris makes some good ones. Advantage is easier removal from car, but are less secure from thieves. Also, these are definitely the cheapest option. 3rd option is have a hitch installed on your car, should be maybe $2-300, then add in a rack on top of this. This option can be secure and the rack prices really aren't bad once you've covered the hitch installation. Go to www.mtbr.com and under reviews, scroll down to racks for reviews. If you want a decent beginner bikes, go to your local bike shops and ride as many as you can. If you want a mtn or road bike, a decent, better quality one that'll last can be had for around $6-800 and cheaper ones (weigh more, less durable equipment, but will work fine for normal use) for $3-500. They should be clearing out the 07's to make room for the 08's, so now is a good time to shop. Also, some local bike shops carry second hand bikes that you can get a good price on a quality used one. Just figure out how much you are willing to spend before you go. There is a rack out called Bones, its by Saris. Ask your local bike shop, they should have them. I have a Honda Accord and its great on that. its designed for smaller cars. Ask your bike shop for the Saris Bones rack. runs aprox $150-175. It is rather expensive but, if you treat it right, you wont have to buy another rack for a long time. I use a Yakima King Joe 2 on my Mustang. It fits great, doesn't scratch my car, and I haven't had a bike fall off yet. I ordered mine from Onion River Sports... http://www.orsracksdirect.com/yakima-kin... They offer free shipping and handeling on orders over $99 so that made it the cheapest option. It's the only trunk rack I've used so I can't compare but I know I dont have any complaints. |
