Back problems + bike riding?

When I rode my bike my back would hurt after 30 minutes, and i would have to stop for a break and rest my back. then my bike's wheelgot screwed up so im planning to buy a new one. also, recently, i was lifting furniture with my dad, and my back started hurting like crazy and now i can't bend down as far as i used to be able to. i want to buy a fast bike, but those require you to be bent over the handlebars, which would probably hurt. is there some sort of technique to help me?

hahaha, Mike D you kill me. He IS right. Biking, whatever kind you do should not HURT your back. If you ride infrequently, are overweight, are in overall poor condition or your bike is a bad fit your back may get very TIRED but not actually HURT!

If you're lifting things and pull it or worse you need medical advice. If the doc says your OK work out your core. Abs and back. If it HURTS to work out too you definately have a medical issue - don't ride until you resolve it.
Take your bike into the garage and leave it there.
No more back problems.
i think you have a muscle pulled or scolious...
I think you should stop doing those things for a while till it gets better
Sounds like you may have herniated a disk in your back.

Your best bet is to heal up before pushing your back again.

I had to go through 2 years of physical and manual therapy to finally resolve a similar problem I was having. Hopefully it is not so severe in your case.
Hey,

I'm pretty sure only a medical diagnosis will tell you the damage, but I can offer a way to help...

Strengthen your core. this is of vital importance for people with back pain, as the ab muscles can help support the funtions of the back.

As for biking, you could try getting a different stem and handlebars that will help you sit more upright. Even better would be an actual comfort bike.

A recumbant bike would also be great, but they cost some $. You can in fact go really fast on these!

If you want to use a road bike, maybe look into some designed for some extra comfort like the Trek Pilot series...

Definetly start by strengthening your core - it will be the biggest help
ouch... have u tried a yoga ball驴 helps my back anyway
When I first started taking spin class at my gym, that 60 minutes on a bike would TRASH my lower back! After awhile (read a few weeks of going through the pain), my back got stronger and now I don't really have any problem there.

A few things I would suggest:

1. Discern if you have an injury. If you do, take the appropriate steps to treat it, recover and learn to prevent it in the future.

2. If you are not injured, be sure to incorporate some lower back strength building excersises into your workout regimen.

When on the bike, remember to keep your back long and flat! Form is everything, when you get tired and start hunching over, you are really stressing your lower back out. Keep the proper form even when you are tired, your body will thank you for it. So keep your back long and flat, head up. This puts more pressure on your core and abs, which is great because it's like doing a whole bunch of crunches and it protects your back!

Have fun!
