Is this a good workout for every week?

I'm about to go into high school and during this summer I have been cycling once or even twice a day. I do this 4-mile cycling route which is hilly and downhill and it would take my about 17 minutes to finish it. I do this twice once in the morning and one in the afternoon. The other 3 days I do 10 miles + and most of the routes have 2 steep hills that would take 3-4 minutes and rest is just flat. Is this a good workout routine for my age?

That's pretty good for a 14(?) year old. Depending on your goals, you might want to step up the time (and distance).

If you're just riding because you enjoy it, Keep up the good work. The only thing I would suggest would be to look into local cycling clubs. You'll meet with people who have more experience, can show you new routes, etc.

If you're looking to keep fit for some sports at school, what you're doing now is just fine. The coach in whatever sport you may be considering can give you better advice at what activities to concentrate on, but riding for an hour a day will only _help_.

If you have any aspirations at becoming a competitive cyclist, it's time to start thinking about working on your endurance. Again, hooking up with a local club is your best bet. Think about long rides once a week (at your age you don't want to over do it), and by that I mean 3 - 4 hours in length, maybe longer depending on how flat the route is. You shouldn't be thinking about setting personal speed records on these rides, but you _do_ want to make it hard enough to be considered a workout. At 14, and average speed of 16-18 MPH is good for a hilly 4 hour ride.
yes its great to have something like cycling I have Basketball but yea man that is good to have something and do it alot
Certainly , it is OK but nothing wrong if you ride more .
thats a realy good workout but if you want a realy good workout try bmx racing.
Sounds good. But one piece of advice. It would be better if you made all rides 30+ minutes minimum. Maybe instead of 2 short rides do the ride twice or 3 times once a day. And of course you don't say if you ride hard or easy or inbetween.
The harder the better.
Great job Wootang! You have to start somewhere. The other posters are right, try to up the total time per ride to at least 30 minutes. It looks like you are averaging just over 4 minutes per mile so add another 3 - 4 to the route. Terrain doesn't matter, in fact it's good to mix it up from day to day. If you really want to see results, ride hard. On a scale of 1 - 10 with 10 being riding the hardest, shoot for an 8. Below is a link that I use to map out my rides.
