I want to buy a bike rack that fits 2" hitch receivers. How do I find out if my hitch receiver is big enough? Do I measure the opening or the measurement of the hitch receiver itself? (the outside).
There is only two sizes , 2' or 1.1/4 . You can also get hitch adaptor for both that you can switch it from car to car . There is many kind of bikerack for car hitch on the market . Well , this is good question . You have to measure distance from top tube to the wheels on the bike and distance from asphalt to wheels . Simple from asphalt to top bicycle tube + clearence between asphalt and bike wheels . Some bike has slope geometry frame , so be carefull . Some better stores have guide which bicycle rack is suitable to different hitch and car model so you do not drag bike wheels on asphalt . Check Thule or Yakima racks . You measure the inside or opening as you called it. yea there are only two, its very obvious, if its a big huge square hole then its the 2" if its all cute and tiny its the 1 1/4". lol
