Whats the best way to ship a bike?

In USA I did use couple of times Amtrack and never ever encounter problem . Be shure to use hard case if you have expensive and fragile racing bike but it will cost you to much money . In bike shop you get carton bike box for free . I use for shiping extra carton on sides , so box is more durable . Cheap pipe insulation help prevent paint on frame and sticker Fragile will help too . Find in internet how to pack bicycle to box . I am shure that you will find more usefull information before you start packing bike to the box . Anybody have different experience about the bicycle shiping and I had one with American airlines when my bike went with me like a checked luggage very bad and if I know who did it I may end his miserable life right on the spot because thanks to this idiot I loose two nice days of cycling .

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but here goes.

The easiest way would be to take it to your local shop, and pay them to box and ship it.

The cheapest way would be to get a box from your local shop, and carefully remove the necessary parts, pack it up with some protective layers (ie cardboard between wheel and frame), and then take it down to your local FedEx/Kinko's and send it FedEx Ground. This has been where I've gotten the best rates lately, though they do seem to fluctuate some.

The best way would be to go buy a really nice bike case at your local shop, which will probably run you at least $250, but is worth it if you ship your bike often, and then have the shop pack up your bike in the case and take that to the local FedEx/Kinko's.

FYI, they may not tell you this, but if you open a FedEx account, which is easy to do, I think they give you a few percent discount too.

Ground shipping,and also take off front tire. Or you can mail it in 2 boxes tires and handle bars in one and Frame and other stuff in the other. Fast and saves money.
