Mapquest but for Bikes? |
Does anyone know of a website that has the same search feature of Mapquest but made specifically for Bikeriding... Thanks As others have mentioned, there is no website that combines autorouting with bike specific features (side paths / bike lanes). Local bike clubs will be your best bet. Ideal routes will have aerial map view with street names, topological profiles, as well as turn by turn directions. If you live near the Bay Area, CA, than 511 offers a useful feature that will display slopes as well as the official bike routes. Many routes have been inserted, mostly in the contiguous US: http://veloroutes.org/. Many cities have aerial maps of their bike routes, try searching the website of your county / city Source(s): Local bay area bike club with routes: http://www.velogirls.com/resources/route... If you want to go across several states on a tour, then adventure cycling will have the routes and map sheets: http://www.adv-cycling.org/ 511 resource: http://bikemapper.mtc.ca.gov/bikemapper/... If you are looking for a map search engine that plots routes that are best for biking, I am pretty certain it does not exist. If you are looking more for local ride areas, try to find a local cycling group - u could start here http://forums.roadbikereview.com/forumdi... Ask in one of the regional forums or ask some local guys is your best bet. Unfortunately technology doesnt give us everything we need just yet. http://www.pedaltheplanet.com/ Not really, I have a Garmin Forerunner 301 GPS that straps around your wrist. I can download my routes to Google Earth Plus (way cool). Also, other people can share their routes with me and I can hold virtual races with them. It is way killer. Check out the link. https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pid=... I've just learned how to read maps and find likely-looking roads. The late great Ken Kifer has a good article about this: http://www.kenkifer.com/bikepages/tourin... There are several sites where people map their favorite rides and you can search. www.mapmyride.com is a good one, so is www.bikely.com hey, try Adventure Cycling. I am a member there and use their info often. They have a lot of routes in USA, based on GPS and other. Good site. Good luck David |
