Can someone help me plan a route for a bike to PA? |
Hey I live at in 31470 st. andrews (not actually mine but its close 2 me) westlake, ohio 44145. I was planning on riding my bike to and from pennsylvania (i know its a long way) in 24 hrs. Please try to find the shortest, bike accessable route. I seem to recall there was a tour from the Cleveland area to Pennsylvania, but I just can't lay my hands on it. Check in Midwest Bike Magazine. It's free in bike shops. You could use their route. Also if you can get to or call Century Cycles in Peninsula 800-201-7433, they may know the route. Good Luck. You want the "Northern Tier Section 9" map from www.adventurecycling.org http://www.adventurecycling.org/routes/n... Have you been training for this ride? From google earth, it's at least 80 miles (straight line distance). That would allow you 7 mph average speed (160 miles, 24 hours). But you'll want to have proven you have lights that have enough burn time (depending on the time of year / daily light). But you'll also want to have your map reading lights tested, as well. Because it's easy to get turned around in unfamiliar territory, at night, when you are fatigued. The previous answers about adventure cycling are excellent. Other tips - how comfortable are you with traffic? If you are uncomfortable, avoid urban areas like cleaveland; nearly all limited access roads (interstates, federal highways) will also be off limits. In addition, you haven't actually defined your destination in PA , which depends on your conditioning (are hills / mountains okay, or only very small gradients?), your equipment (do you have excellent lights?), as well as your skill level / desire to ride with traffic. Good luck with your training, and have fun! no bike routes for ohio yet: http://veloroutes.org/bikemaps/... JD, what part of Pa were you planning on going to? From where you are located, you could be going towards Erie, Pa, Sharon, Pa or Pittsburgh, Pa. It's hard to give you a good route without a destination. |
