My bike chaining keeps popping off please help? |
it is a new bike and it was working fine until i had to take my wheel off and fix my innertube. i put it back on and now it keep popping off and now it is off both spockets. please use lamen terms, i am not any good at bikes thanxs Hard to say, but my first guess is that you may have the chain too tight -- you need a slight amount of slack in it. Too loose can make it derail also. If it's too tight, any snag or misalignment of teeth can lift the chain up and send it off the sprockets, plus it's hell on the bottom bracket and hub bearings. If your bearings/axles are loose or broken, a tight chain might also point that out. Most bmx bikes have little positioning plates for the axle, or adjustable tensioner plates back there. Did you put those on and in the right position? Also, the other important thing is the chain itself......if it's bent or twisted you need to replace it. If it's rusty, try lubing it and make sure every link bends freely. (The only other thing would be if you changed the chainline somehow by messing with the bottom bracket or sprocket/hub, but I'm betting you didn't do any of that during a flat fix.) Hope this helps. You might check out this link from Park: http://www.parktool.com/repair/readhowto... Have your dad fix it. You might need to adjust the rear derailer. If you aren't bike savvy you might want to take it to someone who is. try taking it apart again and then reassembling it, that might help. If not, you may have bent one of the cogs on the sprocket and that's what keeps throwing the chain off. if it is bent you'll have to replace it. Take the wheel off again. Put the chain back on the front sprocket. Then put the chain onto the rear sprocket, and then put the wheel onto the frame. Make sure you put the wheel on squarely. You may have installed it last time just slightly out of line, and that is what caused it to come off. Also, make sure that the chain is nice and taught once the wheel is put back on. Happy cycling. Not enough info. Are we talking about a single speed? If so, you may not have put the wheel back on straight. Realign it. You could have bent the chain muscling the whee off... If its a multi-speed bike, you probably hit the derailer and threw it out of alignment. Unless you know what you're doing, take it to a bike shop for adjustment. Touching the wrong screw on a derailer will only make matters worse. You put the back wheel on crooked. Loosen the two nuts, move the wheel up a bit and put the chain back on , move the wheel back until the chain is snug, tighten the nuts just a little bit then check the clearance between the tire and the frame tubes near the pedals and make sure it is in the center, if not bump it with your hand until it is. Check the chain to make sure it is tight then tighten the nuts fully. Now check the alignment at the tubes again to make sure it did not change. that should take care of it. |
