Rear derailluer adjustment campy? |
Hi my indexing works fine meaning each click changes gears. However when I shift up from smallest sprocket to highest the gears sound smooth and no rattling. When I shift from largest sprocket to lowest there is some rattle in the lower gears. I was wondering if my shifters are screwed up I just purchased a brand new rear derailluer. Thanks What this sounds like to me is you have just a little drag in your cable. Pull your cable off and clean and lube with a light oil. What's happing is there's just a little stickiness in your cable it's OK on shifts when your hand is the power for the shift to a larger cog. When you shift to the smaller cogs, the derailluer spring is what supplies the force. The spring isn't strong enough to move the chain EXACTLY on to the smaller cog. Your shifting works because there is just a little too much drag and the fine adjustment down to the smaller cog doesn't happen. If lubing doesn't work install a new cable and or housing, the cable could be kinked or pinched or too corroded. Also, make sure your cable housing is the right length; each housing piece should have smooth transitions or curves to them. Too much or too little will cause extra resistance. If you cut your own housing to fit be sure the cut ends aren't pinched and it allows the cable to slide freely through each housing. Check out other bikes to see what the cables look like for reference if you need to. There is an outside chance the derailleur sping or body is worn. But in the many, many years I've been around bikes I've never seen this. Confidence is high... my rear derailleur took 3 months to preciselly set up, just wait dude |
