Can riding a bike work your abs?

Can riding a bike work your abs?

Only if you _really_ work it.

Casual riding will not do it. You have to ride at or near your anaerobic threshold , then it's mostly the upper abs near the diaphram.

It's only when sprinting that the abs really come into play, When you get out of the saddle and sprint it's similar to doing leg lifts, your abs are contributing to the pulling motion with your arms. At least, that's what a real sprinter does. A good sprint interval workout will work your entire back legs, and arms, an of course every muscle below the waist. About the only muscles that are not worked in a sprint are the pectorals.

That's not to say that casual riding doesn't remove fat from your waist. It does, and it's one of the most effective methods for doing so. The fat from your midsection will get burned off with aerobic exercise that uses the major muscle groups; quads, glutes, and hamstrings. Crunches won't burn fat. They'll make your abs strong and firm, but you won't know because they'll still be under a layer of fat until you start running and/or riding on a regular basis.
yes, but not as much as core training and exercises
Very little, cycling is excellent for losing weight though.
