The average bicycle wheel has how many spokes in it? |
The average bicycle wheel has how many spokes in it? It varies greatly. Less expensive bikes will generally have more spokes, possibly as many as 36. However, more expensive bikes begin to reduce the number of spokes. This is done for several reasons. First, the wheels are a bit stronger and do not need the larger number of spokes to keep them round. Second there is a desire to achieve greater aerodynamics. The more spoke, the more wind resistance. My bike as, I think, 22 or 24 spokes on the front wheel. The rear wheel has a few more. You can also get time trial wheels that have only four large spokes and there are also disk wheels for time trialing that have no spokes, just a solid disk (made from light weight material).32 - 36 range. a few years ago this was easy, either 32 or 36, but with all the prebuilt, semi-areo, areo and carbon wheels there isnt an answer. a conventional wheel built on conventional hubs typically comes in either 32 or 36. for years that was pretty much standard. now days, it depends on whose wheel and how light they are. Why does it matter? usually 32 for a solid mountian wheel. bmx has more road has less |
