Comercial degreaser? |
can i use a commercial grade degreaser such as wd-40 or pb blaster to CLEAN my chain if i use a bicycle specific lubricant such as white lightning after wards? Yes you can! Is the short answer. I use GT85 to clean my chain and follow it with a Teflon lubricant. I know a couple of people who use a VERY light 'food grade' silicon lube for their chains (road bikes). WD40 or GT85 is a MUST if you have ridden in the wet! Despite what some 'know-it-alls' say - you are doing the right thing mate. WD-40 is not a degreaser, it's a lubricant, and a bad choice for bike chains. Yes, you can use pretty much any commercially available degreaser on the market, just don't make a mess with it (keep it on the chain) and use a dry chain lube like Pedros or white lightning afterwards. I would use Pedro's ORANJ PEELZ degreaser. It smells a whole let better than a commercial degreaser. Petroleum based lubricants will work to a lesser degree, but you have to properly dispose of the mess, and they require more elbow grease. |
