What is cycling like in San Diego? |
What is cycling like in San Diego? It is Perfect! In the summer most ride the ocean route. My group usually started our in Mission Bay and headed out to Del Mar/Solana Beach either up through UCSD or over Mt Soledad depending on the difficulty we chose. The starbucks in Del Mar and the Java Hut in Solana Beach are biker friendly and have water for refills. This is about 25-30 miles round trip you can add hills and head inland through Rancho Santa Fe. The weather is great and the roads wide with bike lanes. In the winter you can head inland where it is warmer and have long climbs if you want. Also the SD bike club is the big group out there. They do a ride around Fiesta Island during the week (in mission bay) and weekend rides starting at UTC. http://www.sdbc.org (they have women teams) There also is a velodrome in balboa park http://www.sdvelodrome.com/ Also there is a great fast pace ride that goes through Camp Pendleton once a week, I can't remember what day. Specifically for women you can check with the local bike shops. Source(s): I lived there for 13yrs and can't wait to return next summer!!! |
