Your kidding right? Source(s): past experience
Speed has more to do with your own strength and endurance. Are you asking what brand or model of drive train components is best?
18 is the fastest
Big one in the front, little one in the back.
Big up front and small in the rear will cause the back wheel to spin the most time with each pedal revolution. On an 3 up front, 6 in the rear on an 18 speed bike, the rear gears will probably go from 14-24 or 14-28 (that's the number of teeth), but there are also some 13 teeth available. If you can push the bike at 90 rpm in those gears on flat terrain for an extended period of time, you are the man. The limitation is more in the "engine" than the bicycle itself.
Or possibly its 2 front and 9 in the rear, but you still do the same gears. Again, if its too easy, you get a bigger up front or a smaller in the rear to get yourself some more speed.
Use them all. If you're fast, you're fast.
