Child's bike seat problem? |
can you have a tag-a-long (one of those kiddies bikes with no front wheel, which attaches to the back of the adult bike) attached at the same time as an ordinary childs seat? what if i was to get a childs seat that attaches to the front of the bike, instead of the rear, and had the tag-a-long at the back....anything wrong with that? I would never ride with a squirming child's weight over the front wheel. The tag-a-long things are better, but still adversely affect handling. Trailers are best, but a bit pricey. It will fit, but i wouldn't recommend it at all. You are making your bike more and more top heavy the more attachments to add to it. This makes it hard to ride and somewhat dangerous. If you go down, your children also go down. it probably won't work. The tag-a-longs seem to attach to the seat post area, which is where the rear child seats go too. definitely do not use any front handlebar-type seating. not only is that top-heavy (like a rear seat) but it will affect your steering. dangerous. remember that your ability to ride properly is one of the most important safety concerns, as well as your ability to get on and off while balancing kids. a top heavy bike is tough to ride, and easy to tip on mount/dismount. the safest way to bike with 2 small kids (up to 100lbs combined) is a trailer. They sit side-by-side in their own trailer that you pull. it doesn't affect your biking at all (other than a little burn in your legs!) and if by chance you fall, the connection is usually designed so that the trailer stays upright too. they're strapped in, wearing helmets in a trailer with an aluminum roll cage so if they do tip, they're fine. there's pockets for toys, juice box, etc. and usually a little trunk space for extra jackets or to bring home groceries. prices run from $100 for Schwinn or In-Step brands at Target/Toys-r-us type stores, to Burley brand that runs $250-350, hand made in Oregon. I have 2 boys - 3 & 1. I've used both In-Step & Burley with my 3 yr old. The Burley was very well made but expensive. I'm considering trying to start riding with both boys too. Good luck with your precious cargo! |
