Anyone know the bottom bracket size for a giant XTC Se? |
this is required kinda urgently and pleaz dont ask me to check the bottom bracket for dimensions because i havent managed to get it out yet. how can i also measure the overall length of bb without taking cranks off.( they wont budge) Hey, I know you said don't measure it, but thats one of two ways to get the 2 measurements. The other way is to take it out and see what is stamped on the shell itself. You could find it on a listing of that bike and check the full specs. If you do want to measure it, all are in mm's. first number is the BB shell of the frame. Second is spindle length. This you would need to remove the crank arms. To remove the crank arms, you can't just take them off, you need a crank puller. The spindle length will depend on what crankset is on there. Most likely it'll be 118mm, but thats no guarantee at all. You do need both of those numbers... Good luck Source(s): work in a bike shop all you need to know is what crank is on it. your bike shop can easily look it up and tell you what bottom bracket you need. actually there isnt as many sizes as you would think, and the crank determines what size you need. as for the crank arms, i have seen them seize if they havent been removed in a long time. the spindle in your bottom bracket is alloy and the crank is aluminum. there is a chemical reaction between those two metals. if given time they can basicly weld themselves on. in this case you may have to actually cut the spindle to get it apart and then replace everything. try soaking it with penetrating oil and leaving it set. you can also try a shop. they usually have a little bit better tool than the home, and can get more leverage on it. sometimes it is worth paying someone. |
