Need help dealing on biking miles? |
how much would biking a mile be in contrast to running a mile I mean would it be the same amount of work or would it be less, what are the exact numbers, and oh yeah, how high should your bike seat be. There are no exact numbers. Cycling speed is a lot more variable than running speed, so it compares best in terms of time. For most intermediate runners an hour of cycling is going to be roughly equivalent to five miles running at the same level of effort, so 20 minutes to a mile. it depends on your height for the bike seat. and also the work depends on the performance of your bike and the tire radius. but really biking a mile is always easier and faster than running it. your seat should be adjusted high enough for you to be comfortable through the whole stroke from top to bottom. that's really about it. Your seat height should be adjusted so that the heal of your foot is touching the pedal when your leg is totally straight. When you ride, the ball of your foot should be on the pedal. Most novices ride with the center of their foot on the pedal, which is incorrect form. Assuming you ride with the same intensity that you run with; you would burn the same amount of calories for the same amount of time. A 30 minute bike ride would equal a 30 min run. However, that run may be 3-5 miles (or more) depending on pace, and your ride could be 7-15 miles depending on your pace. That's probably not the answer you were looking for, but minute-to-minute they're about the same, but mile-to-mile running will give you the better workout. Obviously, you won't run as many miles as you bike. As for the seat issue. The other answers do well. |
