I'm going to buy one of those old fashioned cruiser bikes, and I was wondering about the brakes. Which type should my bike have: the handle bar brakes or the pedal brakes??? I can't decide. Also, I already have some perspective bikes, but if you know of a place that sells them for cheap, could give me a name or website? Thanks so much! ^_^
Usually a single speed cruiser has a coaster brake, and a multi-speed cruiser will have hand brakes. That is unless you're getting a newer, more expensive one with Nexus hubs, but it doesn't sound like you are. I'd make the decision based on how many gears you want. If you're riding where it's flat, get a single speed with a coaster brake, if you need some gears for hills, get a 7-speed with hand brakes. Coaster brakes don't perform as well as hand (rim) brakes normally. However if you are doing casual rides as the bike is designed for, I'd go for coaster. The look is much more sleek and clean than having levers, cables and brakes hangin on the bike. I love coaster brakes on cruisers... however, I also like to sit there and freewheel backpedal when I'm leisurely cruising the boardwalk, so handbrakes are cool too. whatever fits your style...
