Is the Kaw ZX-14 or Hyabusa a comfortable ride on the highway as compared to a cruiser of the same size?

I am planning to ride a bike to work and back approximately 65 miles one way.

Most sportbikes are gonna be hell on a long ride... you sit with a lot of weight on your arms (which is especially annoying on highways because you don't get to shift around and let parts rest a bit here and there)...

I personally don't care for cruisers, either, but they are pretty comfortable to ride on the highway, but i live in the mountains and love dragging footpegs (which the huge sportbikes aren't that good at anyways)...

I would suggest looking into something like a Honda 919... it's a bigger, powerful bike, that handles like most of the sportbikes around 1000ccs, but has a bit more of an upright riding position and footpegs positioned a bit more forward for a more comfortable riding position... but... you'll need a windshield (it doesn't come with one... or any plastics) for all that highway riding (which you can order from most shops)... and perhaps a bit softer seat (the seat is pretty hard)...

I bought a 500 Ninja to do a 50 mile 1-way commute to work (which I realize is a lot smaller than it seems like you're looking for), but it has a much more upright position than most sportbikes and is really comfortable for long rides (it's got a nice squishy seat too)... it gets around 55 mpg on the highways... it's a bit weak on power (especially if you weigh much over 180 lbs... it tops out at about 130 mph... but it keeps me out of trouble), but handles better than pretty much any bike out there (I have a buddy that races one and hangs curves faster than any of the larger bikes with the exception of a few of the 600s)

looking at just the Hayabusa and the ZX-14R... I'd go for the Kawasaki... everything I've read about it, it seems like it's gonna be a better bike than the busa's...
DONT DO IT!!! Buy an economy car instead. Get a 03 VW jetta with a TDI. 48mpg on highway. Any of the Chevy Metros will aproach 45 mpg highway. Riding a Motorcycle everyday is insanity. How soon do you want to die? How soon do you want to end up a cripple paying someone to clean you after you go to the bathroom? NONE of the motorcycles on the road are more efficient than most of the basic economy cars, and they are MUCH safer. The best thing to do would be to MOVE closer to your work! or get a job closer to home. Do you really want to spend 2.5 hours driving everyday back and forthe to work? However, if you are intent on being a stupid impractical idiot...The Cruisers are alot more comfortable. Get a BIG windshield and some Hardbags to carry extra gear. And LEAVE the exhaust stock. Changing to loud pipes will kill your economy as well as make for an uncomfortable noise level while riding long distance. Good Luck to you! And be sure to pay cash! they ride better when paid for!
