What is the best motorcyle for a beginner?

I'd like a Harley or a cruiser style bike, but willing to ride any maker. I really haven't made up my mind since it's a new idea that I'm toying around with.

Do you have any experience riding a motorcycle? I know several people who have purchased motorcycles and then decided that they didn't really enjoy riding, and ended up with their bikes just sitting and gathering dust.

I'd recommend before you buy a motorcycle, you should take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) beginner riders course. Spending a little bit of time learning to ride properly (safely) can help you decide if it's something you really want to do, and you will be a more knowledgable buyer when the time comes for your own motorcycle.

70cc or any lower cc available in your area. More economical is a slightly used second hand. Japanese brand is little bit cheaper.
I'd recommend searching for a used Honda Rebel. If your lucky you can find a older '86 model as it came in 450cc then. The newer models are 250cc and really don't have enough power for interstate riding but still a good value, dependable and very forgiving mechanically for a beginner. It depends on what part of the country your in, but you should be able to scoop a used one up for less than $2000. I wouldn't recommend buying new because you may decide that it's not for you.
You can't beat a Buell Blast if you're an ADULT beginner. Enough power to have fun, but not enough to lose yourself in.
