Yamaha v star? |
is the v star a good beginner type bike or should i start with something else? as long as its a cruiser. i dont much like sport bikes... The V-Star is a very good bike !! All the cruisers are solid. My advice would be to go around and sit on some different makes (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki) and find one that fits you. Depending on how big you are, your comfort will vary. I was in a similar situation as you when I got my first bike. I rode a little when I was in H.S., but nothing bigger than a 250. At 6'4", anything smaller than an 1100 was way too small for me. I ended up buying a Honda VTX1300R and I love it. After riding it I realize I could have easily handled the 1800, but there's always time to move up in the future. If you like the V-Star, go for it !! Do some shopping around, a used one may be the way to go....... but you can also think of it this way, a V-Star is a ton less $$ than a Harley Davidson !! Get something big enough to fit you....take a safety class..... and get out there and have fun !!! I got my first at the age of 35 & every time i'm out riding I always think to myself...... "I can't believe what I've been missing all these years". Rode my first motorcycle yesterday actually. It was a V star 650. Very nice. Easy to ride and everything Enough motor and not too much! It was a step up from my dirtbike! I think youd enjoy it! Yes, I had a V-star 650. It was a nice, strong bike, good handling, good mileage, fun to ride. Never had mechanical problems. I recently sold it and bought a 2007 Honda Shadow. You can find V-stars for cheap now days. I especially liked that it was shaft driven. I hate dealing with chains. The V-star is a pretty good bike. Cruisers are relatively easy to ride and handle, so you could do a lot worse. But for your first bike you should not get that beautiful new bike of your dreams. You're going to be hard on your first bike. You're going to abuse the clutch. You might drop the bike once or twice before you get the hang of it. You should get an 'old beater' and put a few thousand miles on it. Then not only will you be easier on that new bike but also you'll have a better idea what you want. If it was me I'd look for something maybe 10 years old, Japanese, around 750 to 1000ccs. There are a lot of cruisers in that category--Magnas, Viragos, etc. Check out Craigslist. After six months or a year you can sell it again for what you paid for it. The V* is a great bike. I have an 1100 (18,000 miles) and a friend has the 650. (13,000 miles) They have a good motor, handle very well and look nice. I've never heard of anyone complaining about their V*. The only thing I don't care for is to change the oil filter (not the oil only) is you have to take part of the exhaust off but this is a small complaint since everything else about the bike is great. To get a lot of info on the bikes here's a great forum dedicated to V-stars. http://www.international-star-riders.com... Good luck and remember...Only a motorcyclist knows why a dog sticks its head out the window. THEY ARE NICE,A BIT PRICEY,BUT NICE, .ALSO A LOW MAINTNANCE BIKE.... Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer. V stars come in different sizes and the year can make a difference. |
